Attachment is essentially the emotional closeness and bond that develops between and infant and his/her caregiver. It serves as a template for emotional rapport and has potential impact on relationships in the future. Attachment is affected by a number of factors, several of which are determined by the mother’s pre- and postnatal mental health.
